You may be asking what is Chinoiserie? So first, let’s dive into this décor styling that incorporates the decorative or fine art based on Asian motifs. Essentially, the imitation of Chinese patterns and techniques in western décor elements. It is bold, yet sophisticated and very on-trend for weddings at the moment. Blue and white Chinese porcelain is always in style, but lately it is taking center stage.
Blue and White Wedding Inspiration
For me, being Czech, you grew up surrounded by the Czech Onion pattern. ON. EVERYTHING! Mostly porcelain, but it was also found items such as tea towels, linens, curtains, table cloths...anything to do with table ware. You couldn't escape it. Any house in Czech Rep. would have it on display. It always captured my imagination and I always loved the pattern and the color. The striking blue pattern is so beautiful.
While the design most likely originated from an east Asian model, probably Chinese, it also demonstrates that the manner of strictly abstract stylization has a European influence.
This pattern initially inspired the suite that was designed for this shoot - which we've named Sadie. Although it is a softer blue, the placement and patterns had me channel Chinoiserie mixed in with a little bit of Wedgewood Blue as well. A blue tone that I believe is perfect for weddings. Best thing about this suite - all the blue elements can be changed and customized to match your wedding color theme. Don't hesitate to ask us!
